The Heat Of The Moment

See the candle flame flicker it’s light on the room
The last time it flickered our love was in bloom
Just as my thoughts started straying
I looked up and there you were saying ‘Hi!’

Thought I heard someone singing an old-fashioned tune
The last time I heard it our love was in bloom
Just as the fiddler was playing
I looked up and there you were saying ‘Goodbye!’

But words are said in anger ,sometimes in jest
And words can never bring back a love laid to rest
The heat of the moment is soon in the past
And though it’s all over the memory will last.

I reached for a pen but I’d nothing to say
It’s hard to explain why I want you to stay
Just as the light started dying
I looked up and heard myself crying ‘Why!’
